New Teen Driving Law is in Effect Today

A law banning teen drivers from talking on the phone while driving will go into effect Thursday, March 28, 2013. Kelsey’s law bans teens with level oneNew Teen Driving Law is in Effect Today or two licenses from talking on the phone behind the wheel. The only exceptions include hands-free devices and emergency calls to 911. The bill is named in memory of Kelsey Raffaele who died in a cell-phone related crash in 2010. Our program combines two crucial courses into one, Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project Secure Child (child safety). Students will be trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. This program is set in a fun, yet structured, environment which will give your child a positive outlook on learning a martial art. We focus on healthy attitudes versus perfection! Participants will achieve strategies, drills and exercises they are lead through. An ongoing course, where students have the opportunity to continue their education in the same location with no hidden fees!

Rankin Elementary Helps Raise Money for Leukemia and Lymphoma

Rankin Elementary istrying to raise money for patients with leukemia and lymphoma. Last week students brought home a packet of papers explaining the different activities. For $1 students may buy a pass to listen to the iPod at lunch time on march 22nd (only students you have purchased a pass may participate). For $2 students can send a “Jammie Grammie” to someone special. The deliveries will take place on Thursday, March 28th. During the entire month of March Mrs. McGilvery is announcing a bingo word during morning announcements. In order to participate students must purchase a bingo card for just $1. And the big jar of candy kisses? The student who guesses the number of kisses in the jar or comes the closest will win the jar of candy. Each guess is just $.25 and the winner will be announced on the 28th. Each classroom also has a penny box to collect spare change. The money raised by the classrooms will help to support the Pennies for Patients program. The classroom who raises the most money will win a pizza party next month.

 

Big News from Da Peeps Robotics Team!

Big News from Da Peeps Robotics Team!

Da Peeps, Carman-Ainsworth’s FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge®) Team competed at the Cranbrook FIRST® Robotics Competition on March 8. They were the Captain of the 1st place winning alliance team, which qualified the team to compete at the World Championship in St. Louis Missouri from April 24-27. The team won 9 of its 10 matches and was also recognized for its efforts in reaching out to the community.
