Zarria’s experience during the MSBOA District III Honor’s Band at Brandon High School

On Saturday January 31, five CAMS students participate in the MSBOA District III Honor’s Band at Brandon High School. Zarria wrote a short article about her experience:

Oh my goodness! This was one amazing day including dynamics, staccatos, and teamwork! Our eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Kenworthy picked 5 students from her first and third hour classes which were; Kieana, Logan, Evan, Zarria, and Anjewel. Us five students went to Brandon High School in Ortonville, Michigan on January 31, 2015. The eighth grade honors band conductor was Ms. Stacie Detengen. In the 10 hours of practicing 4 pieces of music she taught us who was important in the particular time in the music and using teamwork. The 5 students from CAMS had to play the same music but with different students. The different students were from Grand Blanc East, Clio, Holly, and more schools. At the end of the 11 hour day we learned how to get along with different people in a short period of time and how to pay attention to the music. This experience was wonderful and awesome!

Ms. Miller introduced seniors, Miss Tahirah Gaines and Mr. Darian Vaughn, who recently participated in the Shrek theatrical performance at the high school. Miss Gaines and Mr. Vaughn are active members of the Drama Club and compete in various areas at the State Thespian Festival, including in the solo musical category where they each received superior ratings. Miss Gaines and Mr. Vaughn have received impressive college scholarships and are carefully assessing their options. Ms. Miller added she was proud of both students, not only for their talent, but also for their tremendous work ethic. Each introduced family present.

Superintendent Tunnicliff announced Ms. Delynne Miller is the sole recipient of the Michigan Educational Theater Association’s (META) Hall of Fame Award for the 2014-2015 school year. Reading from the META press release, Superintendent Tunnicliff stated, “This award is presented to an outstanding theatre educator each year. The nominee must have been in service for a minimum of 15 years and should demonstrate excellence in the classroom, and exceptional skills as a theatre director and program leader. Candidates must also make significant commitments to serving the Michigan Education Theater Association.”

Superintendent Tunnicliff commented Ms. Miller is not merely a teacher, but a quality individual with character who always selects the most difficult shows for her students to perform-many of which continue their theatrical studies in college. Ms. Miller introduced family present and thanked the Board.
