CYBER-BULLYING

Cyber-bullying is the willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of electronic data (www.cyberbullying.us).  It is going to take the entire community response to address this issue. Here at the high school, we have an anonymous reporting system for anyone who witnesses or has experienced the effects of any type of bullying. It is at the following website:  http://www.AnonymousTips.com. We need to work together to report these incidents to help keep our students safe and comfortable to stay focused on their academic studies. “See It, Hear It, Stop It”.

Junior Program

The high school counselors are preparing to present the junior class program. The main items to be covered include credit checks for graduation, career research, ACT, NCAA Eligibility Center information, post-secondary options, and senior year preparation. All students will be given a “To Do List” for the summer. Completion of the items on the list will help make the fall of their senior year go smoothly.

MME/ACT

The Junior class has completed the State of Michigan’s MME/ACT required testing. This test was given free of charge to all current juniors. If anyone wants to retake the test, the traditional national test will continue to be available, at your expense. Students may take the test as often as they choose. It is offered every two months throughout the school year.  Go to actstudent.org to find out about testing dates and registration deadlines.

Summer Programs

Summer school will again be available here at the high school. The registration  dates are:  June 19th and 20th from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. The cost for each class is $150 per ½ credit. Information is in the Guidance and Counseling Office.

Announcements about summer workshops in Michigan and around the United States continue to come into our office. These provide opportunities for students to attend summer programs, in their areas of interest. Check with your counselor, if interested.

Senior Events

The Carman-Ainsworth class of 2013 Honors Convocation will be held on Thursday May 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Seniors will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in many areas including academic, citizenship and service. We would like to acknowledge all scholarships and awards that our seniors have received, whether or not the awards are accepted. Parents please remind your seniors to bring proof of their awards to the Guidance Office, so we can honor them. Graduation is Wednesday June 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the Perani Arena and Event Center. Seniors last day at CAHS and the skill center is May 17th. The remainder of the high school finishes up on June 7th.

Scholarships

Scholarship deadlines are approaching fast. There are still plenty of awards out there if students apply soon. Be sure to read the daily announcements and check our website for new additions. It is not too late to complete your FAFSA. See your counselor for help.

As the school year comes to a close, it is important for every student to finish up strong. Attendance is crucial to their success. Please encourage your children to take advantage of our free tutoring, which is held in the media center, after school, on Monday through Thursday. Student’s grades will improve if they attend school every day, work hard, hand in all assignments, go to tutoring and study hard for all exams. Enjoy your last month of school.
