FREE Butterfly Beautification Workshop

R.H. Heinlein said, “Butterflies are self-propelled flowers.”  Butterflies are not only beautiful, but play a very important role in our environment. At Genesee County Parks For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, we couldn’t agree more and we want to share our love of butterflies with you! Plan to come to our FREE Butterfly Beautification Workshop from 6:30-8pm on July 1 for a tour of the brand new butterfly gardens. You’ll even get to create a mini butterfly garden to take home!

We’ll spend time talking about the ways you can help improve the lives of local butterfly species through creative gardening, and you’ll find out how to get involved in butterfly conservation efforts like the 40th Annual North American Butterfly Association’s Butterfly Count  taking place on July 5 from 10am-noon.  You’ll learn the basics of butterfly identification and be able to collect your own data to add to this national citizen science project.

Genesys Free Student Heart Screenings

Genesys Heart Institute Physician Group (GHIPG) physicians will conduct free student heart screenings for students age 12 to 19. Board certified GHIPG physicians will conduct the screenings in Suite 3452 of the hospital from 4:00 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. on June 25, July 14, August 20 and August 25.

To register your student, go to www.Genesys.org/StudentHeartScreenings and choose a time that works for you.

The screenings are designed to help identify any pre-existing heart conditions that potentially could increase a student’s risk of complications during vigorous physical activity. Studies have shown that many seemingly healthy students will die of sudden cardiac arrest. While it can strike those who are sedentary, the risk is up to three times greater in competitive athletes, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The screening process takes approximately 30 minutes.

Please tell your family and friends about these free student heart screenings offered at Genesys. If you need more information, call the GHIPG office at 810-606-7550.
