Volunteering at Rankin

shutterstock_106693292Please remember, if you would like to volunteer at Rankin or participate in classroom events or field trips, you must complete a volunteer application before doing so. Applications are available in the main office and only take a few minutes to complete. Reminder – a copy of your driver’s license or state identification must be submitted with the application.

In order to provide safety to our students, a simple background check will be completed. Mrs. McGilvery will contact parents only if there is a problem. I f you do not hear back from the school, please know that your will be cleared to participate.

Volunteer applications must be renewed every year.

Elementary Lost and Founds Already Overflowing!

shutterstock_99305240 (1)If your child’s name is on their belongings we can get them returned. Any time you are in the building please ask to see the Lost & Found area, especially if you are missing items. Almost all busses also have a Lost & Found box on their bus. Please have your child check with the bus driver if they are missing something.

Now that the weather is getting a little cooler in the mornings students are being sent to school with light jackets. By lunch time it is warming up and they take those jackets off. PLEASE make sure to put your child’s name on the tag of the jacket. We donated many items at the end of last school year because they were never claimed.

YouthQuest Update!

shutterstock_35773588Summer programming wrapped up at Rankin Elementary with a week of “Fun in the Sun” and a virtual trip to South and Central America. Tuesday, we took advantage of a break in the bad weather to hold a day full of water games. The staff came in early to fill nearly 1000 water balloons for the students to toss, launch, and catch at several stations across the playground. The Learning Guides surprised the students by breaking out some hidden squirt guns and chasing them all over the grounds. Of course, they all pitched in to help clean up the mess afterword.

We invited parents and families to join us on Thursday for a party in their honor. Our “Fiesta de los Padres” had families enjoying crafts, games, and food from several different countries the students researched earlier in the week. They sampled Johnny Cakes from St. Thomas and a very pungent guacamole from Brazil while making Guatemalan Worry Dolls and breaking piñatas from Mexico that the kindergartners built. The 4th and 5th graders each created island drinks from Cuba and the Bahamas which were loaded with fresh fruit and juice. Students were enjoying themselves so much many didn’t even realize it was the last day of program until they were getting on the buses to go home.
